Share the joys of springtime by making PYSANKY – eggs decorated in the Ukrainian tradition. In this two-hour class, we will teach the techniques used in the Ukraine and other Slavic countries to create colorful designs on eggs. Learn how to use beeswax as a resist, and then layer colors of your choosing to achieve intricate results. Learn More

Children come in all colors, and so do our cotton dolls. Every year on Martin Luther King day we hold a very special event in our studio. Kids can choose a 7” stuffed doll body and create a character (person or animal) complete with face, fingernails, and clothes that you have designed.

This project is best for Ages 8 and up (younger with adult help) and costs $18 per doll. If you plan to attend with more than 2 children, please call in advance to reserve a place. more info

Hearts for Little Hands at Artbeat

Little hands (ages 2 – 4) will fashion their own crafts to celebrate Valentines Day, starting this week. Join us in this fun exploration of art materials, and take home something special each week to give or keep as a treasure. One hour session includes craft time and snack.

Special projects are offered every Saturday. Projects take about one hour to complete and are open to ages 4 to adult. Children younger than 8 require an adult helper.

About the video

Business owners in Capitol Square in East Arlington, MA, are enthusiastic about their business district, so much so that they decided to sing about it.

It started with Jan Whitted,  from ARTBEAT Creativity Store and Studio, who likes to rewrite song lyrics (and once did so for the Boston Pops). She wrote  lyrics to “Let It Snow” that extol Capitol Square as the best place to shop and dine, and shared them with fellow business owners who work together to plan monthly and seasonal events for the area.

Marc Gurton, the owner of 13FOREST Gallery volunteered to help record the song.  He recruited Eileen Ani, also from 13FOREST, Brian Phillips from Maxima Gift Center, and Andrai Whitted from ARTBEAT. The four met at the landmark Capitol Theatre and sang in the new ice cream parlor recently built inside the historic lobby.  East Arlington resident Walter Locke volunteered to videotape the carolers, and the video will air on local cable station ACMi.TV.

The result, an a cappella showcase of collegial enthusiasm, is an example of community spirit that proves that life—even with a frightful economy—is quite delightful.
